UNITING THE CHURCH ᐧ HEALING OUR DIVIDES

The (Re)union Project

The (Re)Union Project is an initiative of Ideos Institute and supported by a collaborative of Christian organizations, funders, and churches.

Church, we have a problem.

We are at a critical crossroads. We are complicit in a nation gone awry, failing to offer an alternative to the rising intensity of sectarianism and threats of political violence.

We’ve been cornered into thinking we must choose 1 of 2 bad options: join in with the angry choruses or hide and stay silent. And given the levels of polarization we see, it’s easy to assume the problem is political. Or worse, the problem is “them”?

But what if we approached this problem as a spiritual one?

You see, we believe a united church is America’s best hope for ending our current state of division and polarization.

The question we must ask ourselves is how might we live into Jesus’s prayer for the church, “that they may all be one.. so the world might believe?”

We also believe we have an opportunity to embody the good news of God’s kingdom through the healing of our divisions.

The (Re)union Project is YOUR invitation to rediscover what it means to pursue unity with Christ, so that we can be unified as one Church.

In this historical moment, let us discover the joy of becoming ambassadors of reconciliation. May we be reconciled to both God and one another as we share the love of God with the world.

We realize a unity campaign won’t make a difference if it doesn’t build trust through honesty, confession, and transparency.*

Many of the divisions that exist within the church are born out of serious issues that must be addressed. We can’t heal these wounds in an instant, and we can’t ignore or undo the harm caused by sin, injustice, and evil. As followers of Christ, our path to resurrection always begins with picking up our cross, following Christ, and dying to ourselves.

  • Encouraging Spiritual Transformation

Our small group studies, curated resources, and archives of past articles and blog posts are available to encourage you on your personal, organizational, and congregational journey to build greater unity among the people you live with and serve. Want to go even deeper? Subscribe to be notified when our (Re)union Project webinar series kicks off this fall.

  • Investing in Christian Leadership

Today’s (and tomorrow’s) Christian leaders require new tools to navigate our culture of division and polarization. Our in-person and virtual workshops equip these leaders with the skills necessary to be reconcilers and peacemakers, and tools to build cultures where, amidst diversity and difference, empathy and sacrificial love flourish and people can thrive.

  • Fostering Proximity & Understanding

As narratives around politicized and polarizing social issues become more divisive, The (Re)union Project is leveraging the power of media and storytelling to place audiences on a collision course with the experiences and perspectives of people at the center of some of the most challenging issues of our time. Our first experiential learning trip is scheduled for summer 2025.

  • Inspiring Community & Connection

Whether your goal is to find friends and fellow sojourners in your own personal journey, find a community of other Christians working to inspire greater unity in their communities and congregations, or find moments of respite to engage in a time of prayer and reflection with others, The (Re)union Project is a great place to start.
